Sage bleeds memories

bison slaughter famine fear.

Still it sweats sweet hope.

A fine and evocative haiku. Thank you.

Here in Texas, the purple sage also is known as the barometer bush, because it tends to bloom just before a rain. For that reason alone, it’s a sign of hope for hot, sweaty, people who hardly can remember, but still are longing for, rain.

I just remembered I saw your note about your travels, and somehow missed replying. Clearly, you’ve reached an area a little different than your (current) home turf!

Yes, this was rather different territory, although land that was familiar to both my father and my wife. Lovely land in a fascinating way. Thanks for the insight on the purple sage. What a wonder of a plant!
