Green Accruing Gold

Harvest calls “Witness

wave upon wave of wheat’s

green accruing gold.”

Your verse reminds me of Robert Frost’s great poem, “Nothing Gold Can Stay”, which begins,

    “Nature’s first green is gold,
    Her hardest hue to hold.”

And a funny side note: our radio stations are filled just now with advertisements cautioning that the dollar (the “greenback”) is about to collapse, so — buy gold! What a world.

Green and gold seem to have an affinity for one another! As for nature’s first green (thanks for this – I blush to admit that I do not know this poem, but then my degree is in science) I am reminded of the first blush of grass in the spring, which is a kind of emerald green that last but for a few days. It is miraculous!
