A Divine Slip

God slipped past me today.
I caught a glimpse of him out
of the right corner of my right eye.
He walked askew, seemingly oblivious to
all around and yet taking it all in,
taking us all in, just
differently.
Shirt tattered, he
wore the world’s woes
with a peculiar aplomb.
Shoes scarred, he
shuffled alongside those
blindsided by life’s lunacy.
God wasn’t tired, not exactly, and
yet I saw in his gait that the distance from
life to death and death to life
is not so very far.
